Fergus Carmichael Winterbon is a photographic artist based in London. His practice explores the fluid relationship between self and environment, focusing on identity, queer ecologies, landscape, and the queer male nude, particularly the spaces these bodies have historically been denied or excluded from.
Influenced by pictorialism and working across digital, cyanotype, projection, and photomontage, he embraces processes that emphasise tangibility, fragility, and trace.
During his studies at UCA, including an Erasmus period at MOME Budapest in 2007, he developed an interest in photography as a way of understanding place and began experimenting with self-portraiture.
Returning to photography in 2022 through a queer photography course with Boys Boys Boys, his practice was re-energised, leading to an ongoing exploration of the male nude and its underrepresentation in fine art photography.
In 2026, he graduated with distinction from the MA Photography at London College of Communication, where he was awarded the Sproxton Photography Prize for his cyanotype installation and artist book, Finding Eden.
He continues to develop Finding Eden alongside new landscape-based work and is open to collaborations with sitters. He is also available for commissions and artist talks.
